Message from the President, Professor James Garden

The first six months of the year have been busy and challenging. The administration and finances of our Association are as strong as they have ever been. The executive, scientific committee and Council have had meetings at the three regional association congresses in Miami, Shanghai and Belgrade. You will soon be able to have reports on these various activities in future newsletters and now on our new IHPBA website which was launched last month.

This week now sees the launch of a new educational initiative for the IHPBA membership. Our new educational platform, myHPB, will bring members together into a community that will enable them to access their journal, HPB, instantly. Its novelty, however, is that members will be able to share the content of past congresses, read about new hot topics in HPB surgery, view videos and participate in discussion or meet to share views on topical HPB issues with access to quality video, 'a case of the month' as well as debate the regular HPB virtual journal club content.

Members will be provided with up-to-date, quality assured content and key educational resource as well as a meeting space will keep members abreast of the latest developments in the field. Interaction with content can be tailored to meet individual membership needs. You can filter content to suit your own requirements and there is a useful search facility for current or past content. There is an opportunity to set up your own group discussion and interest has already been expressed by certain chapters to create national meeting space with the opportunity to establish discussion boards in languages other than English.

We are in discussion with corporate partners to facilitate this educational development. We appreciate that this would represent an excellent means of keeping abreast of technological and pharmaceutical advances.

Let us know if you think this represents added value for members. Please come back to us with suggestions as to how we can improve both functionality and content.

It belongs to you!

Best wishes

O James Garden
IHPBA President
