Call for Nominations for the 2017 IHPBA Distinguished Service Award/Medallion (Asian-Pacific Region)

Nomination deadline – 31 October 2016

Qualifications

The IHPBA Distinguished Service Award/Medallion is the pre-eminent award of the IHPBA, recognizing the work of an individual who has provided leadership and made significant contributions to the field of hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery as well as to the IHPBA itself. The selection of the recipient for the medallion is based on:

  1. the individual’s contribution to HPB surgery in the Asian-Pacific Region;
  2. his/her contribution to the IHPBA; and
  3. preferably an individual who has retired or is about to retire from active HPB practice.

The award will not be given posthumously.

Current active membership in the IHPBA would be expected, but is not mandatory.

The awardee ideally should attend the appropriate congress. Complimentary registration and two nights’ accommodation will be provided.

The award will be made in at the A-PHPBA Regional Congress in Yokohama, Japan, 7 – 10 June 2017 (www.ahpba2017.com).

Nomination and Selection Process – deadline 31 October 2016

Nominations should be sent electronically to the IHPBA Management Office for the attention of Professor Norihiro Kokudo, IHPBA Secretary General (awards@ihpba.org).  The deadline for nominations is Monday 31 October 2016.

The nomination should be accompanied by a nomination letter outlining the nominee's achievements and merits for this award in the form of a citation (maximum 500 words) that can be used for the presentation, a letter of support from two or three other IHPBA members in good standing, the nominee's CV and a high resolution photograph of the nominee. Individuals can be nominated more than once but they cannot self-nominate.

The nominating committee will bring forward one to three names to the Council of the IHPBA who will choose the final awardee by vote of the IHPBA Council. The IHPBA Council will vote on nominations by the end of January 2017.

Award Presentation

The presentation will be made by the President of the IHPBA at a plenary session of the relevant meeting and will include reading of a citation that highlight the awardee’s major accomplishments and contributions. The awardee will receive the engraved gold medallion. The awardee will be expected to respond briefly to the award.

The award will be highlighted in the program booklet of the relevant meeting.

The HPB journal will publish the citation and photograph of the awardee as a news item from the IHPBA. The IHPBA website will also post the citation and photograph and the award will be highlighted in the next IHPBA newsletter.
