HPBridge ACCORD: A new free-of-charge quality improvement tool for all
The Abdominal Resection Collaborative Outcome and Research Database (ACCORD) is being launched by the HPBridge initiative of the IHPBA. The ACCORD results from years of concern for the lack of robust data for core surgical procedures in low- and middle- income countries (LMICs). Such data are vital both to illustrate the current situation and as a tool for each department’s efforts for quality improvement. The lack of data for HPB procedures in LMICs was obvious during the Cape Town conference in 2024. A prospective registry becomes a strong tool when numbers rise across centres and nations and all users adhere to the same sets of definitions and variables.
ACCORD was launched at five pilot centres in mid-January 2026. Following a test period of 2-3 months we will open participation to any interested centre anywhere in the world. While the initiative springs out of the IHPBA, all abdominal resections can be registered.
The ACCORD is completely free-of-charge, both use of the registry platform and the storage of data. Each centre will retain ownership to their own data and can download these at any time. A steering group under the auspices of the HPBridge will perform aggregated analyses of de-identified datasets that will be fed back to all users. Each centre’s anonymity will be protected.
