Call for Nominations for the 2014 IHPBA Distinguished Service Award/Medallion. Nomination deadline - 31 January 2014

Qualifications

The IHPBA Distinguished Service Award/Medallion is the pre-eminent award of the IHPBA, recognizing the work of an individual who has provided leadership and made significant contributions to the field of hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery as well as to the IHPBA itself.  The selection of the recipient for the medallion is based on:

  •  the individual’s contribution to HPB surgery;
  • his/her contribution to the IHPBA; and
  • preferably an individual who has retired or is about to retire from active HPB practice.

The award will not be given posthumously.

Current active membership in the IHPBA would be expected, but is not mandatory.

The awardee ideally should attend the appropriate Congress, but the IHPBA does not offer travel or lodging support to the recipient.

One award will be made in 2014 at the World Congress in Seoul, 22 – 27 March 2014 (www.ihpba2014seoul.com).

Nomination and Selection Process – deadline 31 January 2014

Nominations should be sent electronically to the IHPBA Management Office for the attention of Professor Rob Padbury, IHPBA Secretary General (info@ihpba.org).  The deadline for nominations is Friday 31 January 2014.

The nomination should be accompanied by a nomination letter outlining the nominee's achievements and merits for this award in the form of a citation (maximum 500 words) that can be used for the presentation, a letter of support from two or three other IHPBA members in good standing, the nominee's CV and a high resolution photograph of the nominee. Individuals can be nominated more than once but they cannot self-nominate.

The nominating committee will bring forward one to three names to the Council of the IHPBA who will choose the final awardee by vote of the IHPBA Council. The IHPBA Council will vote on nominations by the end of February 2014.

Award Presentation

The presentation will be made by the President of the IHPBA, or designee, at a plenary session of the relevant meeting and will include reading of a citation that highlight the awardee’s major accomplishments and contributions. The awardee will receive the engraved gold medallion.  The awardee will be expected to respond briefly to the award.

The award can be highlighted in the program booklet of the relevant meeting.

The HPB journal can publish the citation and photograph of the awardee as a news item from the IHPBA.

The IHPBA website will also post the citation and photograph on the Award page and the award will be highlighted in IHPBA newsletter.
