IHPBA Awarded 2026 Incredible Impacts Programme Seed Fund Grant
IHPBA is delighted to have been named the 2026 recipient of an Incredible Impacts Programme Seed Fund Grant, awarded by the BestCities Global Alliance and the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA).
The grant will support the continued development of IHPBA’s Congress Legacy initiative, helping to turn the reach and influence of the IHPBA World Congress into meaningful and lasting improvements in HPB care.
Building on the legacy of Cape Town 2024
IHPBA’s first Congress Legacy Project was launched at the IHPBA World Congress 2024 in Cape Town, under the leadership of Professor Eduard Jonas. The project focused on addressing inequalities in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in sub-Saharan Africa.
A key outcome was the development of the IHPBA 2024 Legacy Declaration, supported by a White Paper setting out the challenges facing HCC care in the region and recommendations for improving outcomes.
Continuing the legacy in Singapore
The IHPBA World Congress 2026 in Singapore, 28–31 October, will mark the next stage of the programme.
Led by Adj A/ Prof Shridhar Iyer, Chair of the IHPBA 2026 Legacy Project and Congress President, the project will focus on inequalities in HCC outcomes across the Asia-Pacific region and low-and middle-income countries, where gaps in access, affordability and timely care continue to contribute to significant disparities.
The project aims to advance more equitable HCC care through regionally tailored frameworks, collaboration and policy leadership. Planned initiatives include development of an APAC HCC Equity Roadmap, establishment of an APAC HCC Equity Forum, and creation of an APAC HCC Equity Heatmap and ACCESS HCC framework to help benchmark care and identify disparities.
The project will also produce a Singapore Declaration on HCC Equity and an Ethical Living Donor Liver Transplantation Whitepaper, supporting wider discussion and action around policy and ethical practice.
A dedicated Congress Legacy Session at IHPBA 2026 will bring together experts and stakeholders to discuss these challenges and, importantly, how discussion can be translated into practical action.
The award represents important recognition of IHPBA’s ambition to ensure that its World Congresses create an impact that extends well beyond the meeting itself, fostering collaboration, strengthening regional partnerships and ultimately contributing to better and more equitable care for patients with HPB diseases around the world.
