Brief History of the Chapter

In June 2004, Dr. Nestor Gomez talked to Dr. Wright Pinson in Washington DC, about the possibility of founding an AHPBA Ecuadorian chapter. After further studies and deliberations, the chapter was founded with nine members on May 24, 2006. Today, the Ecuadorian chapter has 15 active members. The association has conducted meetings every two years in the Galapagos Islands. The first Congress was held September 12-15, 2007, under the chairmanship of Dr. Nestor Gomez. The second Congress was held from September 8-10, 2011 under the chairmanship of Dr. Pedro Barberan. That year Dr. Gomez hosted a very successful AHPBA charity mission of HPB surgeons led by Dr. Will Chapman. This year's Congress will be held September 12-15, 2013 under the chairmanship of Dr. Eduardo Rivas. Most of these members decided to integrate the IHPBA chapter and was founded too but not all the members have intention to be members of both academic and scientific associations by two reasons: 1) They have the same objectives and goals and 2) The two fees resulted in that time too expensive for our loans.
